You need something more than just deleting it.
Technically speaking, when you hit the “Delete” button attempting to remove comments, bookmarks, certain people’s names, or confidential information in other forms from your document, they might still remain without your consent. What the delete action does is simply making contents invisible, and they might likely be retrieved from through certain recovery software, leading to major security breach. Thus, if you intend to permanently erase specific items from your documents, you need something more than just deleting them.
More Info about Sensitive Data:
- Some pieces of information are very visible in files, such as key words or items linked to certain destinations, e.g. bookmarks, comments, links and attachments, etc.
- Conversely, some others are much more elusive, such as review history, deleted content, and records of any changes, e.g. names of authors, reviewers, departments, or servers.
Consider Whom, What, and How to Ensure Information Security!
Before you send out your files to others, consider with whom you are going to share; what the files are about; and last but not least, how you are going to do it.
